Dollar days

I have a very eclectic vintage style. Our house is filled with old things, antiques, new things that look old, things that should probably be thrown away that I love anyway (like the $3 chair I found in a junk store and recovered with leopard velvet), etc. Anyway, one place I haven’t done ANY decorating is the guest bathroom. I don’t know why – maybe it’s because I just never go up there (out of sight – out of mind, right?), so I decided to give it a shot yesterday.

I had been needing to run by the Dollar Store for some organizing things to go in my oldest daughter’s TINY bathroom cabinet. Keep in mind: Don’t just go to the organization section and call it a day. Some of my best ideas come from perusing up and down the other aisles as well. I found 2 little vases for Q-Tips and toothbrush stuff and some white wire drawer dividers in the kitchen section. I’m VERY happy with how it turned out and at only $5 for everything – my wallet said, “Thank you,” too!

After I had those things in my cart, I headed past the party section (The Dollar Store is a great place for inexpensive party goods like paper plates, cups, utensils, etc.) toward the pool noodles and I spied these little silver, metal trays. I picked a few up (they had round, oblong and rectangular) and look how cute they are! I needed something to tie all these pieces together and I think this DEFINITELY works in with my vintage vibe…

Well, I remembered I had seen several pins (Pinterest is my weakness) about making tiered serving trays out of these and candlesticks, so I decided to give it a try and see if it would work in the guest bathroom. I super glued 2 serving trays together with a candlestick and left it to dry for about 15 minutes. Not only did it work – it looks really nice!

We’ve got company coming to stay this weekend (my best friend who now lives in Indiana and also loves to make things look pretty), and I can’t wait to see how they she likes my $3 guest bathroom makeover.

All-in-all I spent about $20 at the Dollar Store yesterday (including a box of freezer pops, flip flops and a few pool noodles). You don’t have to spend a lot of money – as long as you use a bit of creativity and think outside the box.
